It was another quiet week at the PIPOA. Be careful what you wish for, the current rains will bring mosquitos and weeds.

Short-term Rentals (STRs)- On Monday, May 16, 2022, the City’s stakeholder committee held another meeting. The meeting was called on very short notice. The purpose of the meeting was to preview and discuss the City’s staff presentation for the City Council on Tuesday, May 17. The meeting degenerated into bashing the Island for opposing short-term rentals in the RS-6 zoning (single-family residential). The President and CEO of the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors were especially vehement in pushing her agenda to have unfettered short-term rentals in the RS-6 zoning. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is in contrast to what I have been told by local real estate brokers and agencies. It is all about the money!

Short-term Rentals (STRs)- On Friday, May 6, 2022, the City’s Short-term Rental Stakeholders Committee met. The current thinking by the City is to create at least a two-tier system for the RS-6 zoning throughout the City. Tier one would prohibit STRs in RS-6. Tier two would allow STRs with registration in the RS-6 areas. The RS-6 zoning prohibits rentals of less than 30 days. Therefore, it is unclear how the City will allow STRs in tier two without changing the RS-6 zoning designation. Said another way, if the City allows STRs in the RS-6 zoning, the City will be violating its law. I don’t think the City has thought this through properly.
