It has been a routine and quiet week at the PIPOA.
Boat Ramp- The Fortuna Bay boat ramp has been resurfaced and is open for use. The next boat ramp to be resurfaced is the Caravel boat ramp parking lot. The PIPOA will announce when the ramp will be closed. The parking lot at Caravel is large. It is expected the construction project will take three to four weeks.
Towing- Eight vehicles with trailers were towed from the boat ramp parking lots last weekend. I suspect the vehicles towed were from out of town. Please get a sticker for your car and boat trailer because the sticker identifies the vehicles that belong to members of the PIPOA. You can get the stickers at the PIPOA office. The address is 14015 Fortuna Bay Drive. The stickers are $5.00 for a vehicle and $10.00 for a trailer.
Bulkheads- If you suspect a problem with your bulkhead, please email bulkheads@pipoa.net. The PIPOA is steadily working down the list of bulkheads that need repair. Billish Park- The new landscaping service, engaged by the PIPOA, will be mowing the park every Friday. Thus, providing a freshly mowed park for the weekend. Unfortunately, the gophers have chewed their way through some wiring for the irrigation system. Repairs for this are underway. The PIPOA has under contract an exterminating company to remove the gophers. However, if you wish to adopt a Billish Park gopher and take it home, please feel free to do so (LOL).
Island Presbyterian Church- A big Thank you to the church. During the repaving of the Fortuna Bay boat ramp, the church allowed PIPOA staff to use the church parking lot. Thank you for your hospitality.
Hurricane Awareness Week- Hurricane season begins shortly. Please check with the City and the County websites for suggestions on preparing for a hurricane. Loose items on your deck or in your yard become dangerous missiles. Many people believe the PIPOA Islander sticker on their car will provide a reentry pass to the Island. This is absolutely NOT TRUE. Should it be necessary to evacuate the Island, property owners may be required to show proof of ownership to the police upon return.
City Code Enforcement- The PIPOA continues to work with and encourage the City Code Enforcement Department to enforce the short-term rental ordinance and other ordinances such as unmowed lots. Currently, the City has tagged with blue signs four unmowed lots.
Short-term Rentals (STRs)- No news to report.
Whitecap Preserve Development- No news to report.
