Good News- The first advisory committee meeting regarding a new bridge and causeway off the Island was conducted on Monday, November 21. I am a member of this committee. The committee has been organized by Ted Mandel with the support and assistance of State Representative Todd Hunter. TX Dot is the entity that would be responsible for obtaining funding and constructing a new causeway/bridge. There is a meeting scheduled between TX Dot and the committee next month. The process of getting a new way off the Island will take years. The guestimates include 10-20 years. The good news is the process is getting started. A big thank you to Ted and Todd for getting the ball rolling. Stay tuned.
Good News- State Representative Todd Hunter, with the help of Island resident Ted Mandel, has organized an advisory committee to begin studying the possibility of a second bridge on and off the Island. I have been asked to participate in this committee. The process of getting a second bridge to the Island will no doubt take several years. Funding for the project would come from both the State and Federal governments. We all know how government works; the politics of a second bridge should be interesting.

It has been another quiet week at the PIPOA. Board Meeting- The PIPOA Board meeting conducted on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, provided the following presentations and discussions. The Board voted to increase the amount of compensation paid to members that provide electricity for the aerators in the canals.
Second Bridge to the Island- Our State Representative, Todd Hunter, has reached out to the Texas Legislator to begin a dialog or study of a second bridge to the Island. Ted Mandel is organizing an advisory committee to present Islander views to Todd Hunter. This may be the first step in a long process. It appears the recent hurricane in Florida and, in particular, the damage to the Sanibel Island causeway will be the motivation to undertake a study of the need for a second way on and off our Island.
