    Short-term rentals (STRs) - On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, the Corpus Christi City Council met to discuss and vote on the new short-term rental ordinance. The ordinance passed by a vote of 7 for the ordinance and two against. The Council members voting for the ordinance were Mayor Paulette Guajardo, Councilman Greg Smith, John Martinez, Michael Hunter, Mike Pusley, Ben Molina, and Roland Barrera. The Councilmen that voted against the ordinance were Billy Lerma and Gil Hernandez.

    The next City Council election will be held in November. Please consider supporting the Council members that supported the PIPOA member’s right to quiet enjoyment of their property.

    A thank you to all that participated in the effort to protect our neighborhoods. In particular, Polly Balzer, who was on the stakeholder’s committee, and Sandy Graves, who helped with the petition drive.

    Boat Ramp - The Caravel Boat Ramp has been resurfaced and is open for use. The next boat ramp to be resurfaced is Cabo De Bara. The resurfacing will begin in September after Labor Day.

    Billish Park - The PIPOA is taking bids for sand replenishment for the volleyball court and replenishment of the kiddy mulch for the playground.

    Whitecap Preserve Development - Construction in this development has started. Expect to see canals being dug within the next 60 days. The site plan for the development will be approved by the City Council in the near future. The development will be a PUD (planned unit development). This means the development will contain commercial (retail and hotel), residential, single-family, and multi-family.

    Towing - Last week, 21 vehicles and trailers were towed. The 4th of July weekend set a new towing record. You can purchase your sticker for $10 at the PIPOA Office located at 14015 Fortuna Bay Drive.

    Fireworks 4th of July - The fireworks display was a big success! Congratulations to Nick Colosi and Todd Hunter, Jr., for stepping up to organize the event.

    Litter Critter - According to the City website, the next Litter Critter is scheduled for July 9, 2022, at the Briscoe King Pavilion off Park Road 22. The time is usually from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.     Bulkheads - The two contractors employed by the PIPOA continue to repair bulkheads. If you have a problem with your bulkhead, please contact the PIPOA Office at 361-949-7025. Ask for Gary Klepperich. It is important that bulkhead problems be reported sooner than later.

    Board Meeting - The Board meeting for June 28, 2022, was canceled due to the City Council meeting. The Council took up the issue of short-term rentals. The makeup Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 5:30 PM at the Padre Island Baptist Church across from Whataburger. Everyone is invited to attend.
