As always, let me have your thoughts. You can reach me at marvin@pipoa.net or call me at 469-231-3485. You can also call the Padre Isles Property Owners Association (PIPOA) office with any questions you have at 361-949-7025.

Towing- Last week, nine vehicles and seven trailers were towed from the boat ramp parking lots.  The parking lots are for the exclusive use of PIPOA members. You must have a PIPOA sticker  on your vehicle and your trailer to identify you as a PIPOA member or authorized user. You can  purchase your vehicle and boat trailer stickers at the PIPOA office located at 14015 Fortuna Bay  Drive. The vehicle sticker is $5.00, and the trailer sticker is $10.00.

The PIPOA employee that monitors the boat ramps and orders the towing company to remove  vehicles was forced to call the police last Saturday. A couple of people (whose vehicle was NOT  being towed) became threatening and abusive to the employee and the tow truck driver. The  four-letter words uttered by the abuser literally turned the air blue. No arrests were made.  However, the driver and our employee had every right to swear out a complaint against this  person. The odd part of this is that it was not his vehicle being towed.

This type of aggressive behavior cannot be tolerated. The employee and driver are only doing  their jobs.

Boat- The PIPOA will be operating a boat on the canals to observe and report damaged  bulkheads, decks, and docks. The canals are public waterways. The PIPOA is not spying on  anyone. The boat will have a sign identifying it, and the occupants of the boat will have PIPOA  ID. The PIPOA already contracts with a company to send a boat around the canals for cleaning  purposes. Safety for members is the sole purpose of this operation.

The PIPOA does not own the boat. It is being contracted for this purpose. The persons on the  boat are PIPOA employees. It is expected that the boat will make its Island inspection two or  three times per year.

Fences- State Law allows homeowners to build security fences around their property. However,  the PIPOA covenants do not allow vacant lots to be used for anything but residences. That  means property owners cannot use vacant lots for storage or use for commercial purposes.

ISAC Meeting (Island Strategic Action Committee)- On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, I attended the  ISAC meeting. The meeting itself was short and without interesting topics or discussion. I  spoke to the assistant City Secretary regarding the possibility of getting the meetings broadcast  live or at least videoed so that the public could watch the meetings. I was surprised when told it  was not possible to broadcast from the Island. In order to have the meeting broadcast, the  meeting would have to be conducted at City Hall, where the equipment is. I suggested  broadcasting the media via Facebook. I was told this was not possible. Perhaps it is time to  bring the City into the 21st Century technology.

Audit- The PIPOA has invited the auditing firm Park-Fowler to give a brief presentation at the  August Board meeting. All members are invited to attend and receive firsthand information.  Once again, the PIPOA has received a favorable audit report. The audit will be available on the  PIPOA website next week.

Board Meeting- The next PIPOA Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at  5:30 pm at the Padre Island Baptist Church located across from Whataburger. All PIPOA  members are invited to attend.
