Board Meeting- The next Board meeting will be on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at 5:30 PM at the Hyatt Place located on SPID beside Salt Grass restaurant.
Short Term Rentals- The PIPOA’s short term rental committee met on Tuesday, October 13, at the PIPOA office. Topics discussed were should short term rentals be allowed in the PIPOA, and if allowed, where should they be allowed? Should the City have strong restrictions regarding short term rentals, and should the restrictions be aggressively enforced? A brief questionnaire will be sent to the members by the end of this month.
Litter Critter- According to the City, the Litter Critter will not return to the Island. This is unfortunate because it was well used. The Litter Critter helped to keep the Island looking good.
Budget- The Board and the Executive Director have been working diligently to prepare the 2021 Budget. It should be ready for the December Board meeting. The November and December Board meeting has been combined and will be held on December 8, 2020.
Billish Park- Good news, the park now has new picnic tables at the far North end. It is nice to see many families enjoying the playground, volleyball court, basketball court, and seeing soccer practice happen in the park. Please make sure you reach out to the parks and recreation department if you are interested in having a private function or if you would like to have an event at the park. The City may require a permit. The PIPOA does not require a permit.
2021 Boat Trailer Stickers- The 2021 stickers are now available at the PIPOA office for $10 each. These stickers are required to park your boat trailer on a boat ramp parking lot. Boat ramp parking lots are for the exclusive use of the PIPOA members.
Covenant Amendment Committee- This committee needs members. If you wish to be on this committee and participate in updating the covenants, please call the PIPOA at 361-949-7025.
Boat- The PIPOA will be initiating a boat on the canals to look for decks and docks, sunken boats, and other hazards to our waterway system. Members, our canals are the main amenity of our Island. Members must recognize that unstable decks and docks create hazards when storms hit. There are many decks and docks that appear to be hanging on by a thread. Please make your decks and docks safe.
Bulkheads- Our Bulkhead Manager, Dusty Gordon, has been busy. There are approximately 19 properties in the queue to have their bulkheads repaired. The PIPOA contractor completed repairs on two properties this week.
Article- Last week’s article drew a very large response to the questions I posed to the members. Thank you for your participation regarding the question about short term rentals. The response was about 75% in favor of limiting short-term rentals in the neighborhoods. The response to, should the PIPOA adopt another park, was about 65% in favor of the PIPOA adopting another park. However, most comments were critical of the City for not maintaining the Island parks to the standard of the parks on Ocean Drive.
